Jonathan is an experienced academic lecturer, having for some years been involved at Leeds Trinity University College, taking his own module entitled “Sport and the Media” and also contributing lectures to other modules on both the media and sports journalism degree courses.

In addition to that he has organised and delivered sports radio broadcasting workshops to both undergraduate and post-graduate students. Lectures include: an introduction to digital sports journalism; writing for different media; the history of sport and the media; multi-platform media production; the commercialisation of sport; the rhetoric of the sporting image; sports commentary; sport and nationalism in the media; sport and gender in the media; ‘Icon’ the manipulation of the sporting image through media.

Most recently, Jonathan delivered a series of workshops on how to write match reports for both print and radio to the students of the UCFB at Turf Moor, Burnley.

His approach is grounded in theory, though as a long-term practitioner in all forms of sports media, his style is very pragmatic. His belief is that students should graduate both thinking sports journalism and ‘doing’ sports journalism and that they should be multi-skilled to make it as 21st Century sports journalists.

Re: Jonathan Doidge

I have worked with Jonathan at Leeds Trinity University College. This was with students on the BA Sports Journalism.

Jonathan was well organised and had vocational projects for the students to do which they found very engaging.
He had a good rapport with the students and was also rigourous with his assessment procedures. His ‘real life’ working experiences meant that the workshops had relevance and were current.

October 14, 2012, Carol worked directly with Jonathan at Leeds Trinity University
